Individual Letters

Individual letters are Rainian Phonetica letters formed by placing a macron over a word letter.

The macron tells the reader to pronounce the word letter as the name of the individual letter, rather than its normal pronunciation within a word.

Rainian Phonetica currently has four individual letters:

LetterPronunciation
āname of A
ēname of E
īname of I
ōname of O

For example, the English word safe is transcribed as sāf.

In sāf, the ā is pronounced as the name of the letter A.
